@ buddhafollower: Actually, the religion is called "Bon" (with an umlaut over the O). Bon-po refers to people who practice that religion. And what we're seeing here is not necessarily Bon ritual; these kinds of shamanic practices are closely akin to those found in Siberia and throughout the Himalaya. They predate Bon religion, but were to some degree absorbed by it--just as many aspects of Bon were assimilated and absorbed by Vajrayana Buddhism.
