This video clip was taken at the Wild Animal Orphanage, San Antonio, TX on 11/24/08. Bubba arrived at the WAO in April 2005 along with several other animals to include 8 servals (to which there is only one left at the facility). The WAO sent out newsletter appeals in 2005-06 requesting funds so as to build Bubba a "specially designed, large natural area, with low shelter areas and large natural pool." The cage was never built. His cage mate, Princess, disappeared in 2008 and is presumed dead. Bubba was promised a special diet and medication to treat any pain resulting from his degenerative joint disease in his hips. According to the WAO vet in 2006, Bubba should have been able to live a near normal lifespan. Bubba is only about 8 years old. November 2008, USDA/APHIS was notified of his current condition. Bubba deserves so much better...When will the WAO keep their promises to this sweet tiger? Can anyone save him before its to late? The first freeze is expected on December 10th and with so little body fat, how will Bubba survive without mulch or hay in his enclosure?

News Update: The WAO is now under new management and Bubba's enclosure has a lot of mulch and his den has straw! Bubba is also receiving medical treatment for his health condition. Today he is looking much better thanks to caring animal caretakers. We are very grateful for everyone's help in saving Bubba! Thank You!

  • It is with great sadness to report, Bubba, was euthanized today [May 28, 2010] at the WAO. According to his veterinarian, Bubba’s health took a turn for the worse and she believes he had cancer (lymphoma).

Bubba will be missed by a lot of people for he touched the hearts of many—he was truly an inspiration to all who knew him. May God Bless Bubba in Heaven where he is now living in a perfect body without any ailments or impediments.

  • Update on Bubba: Hay was finally placed in Bubba's shelter box and the tour guide claimed the tiger would be seen by the vet to have his in-grown toenails removed by next week.

Princess is confirmed dead, along with Tarzan (lion), Tag (tiger), and Athena (tiger). These four animals died this year.

The WAO has been under investigation by the USDA/APHIS and the Texas AG's Office for almost three years for alleged violations of the Animal Welfare Act and misappropriation of funds.

  • Geez, that is sad. They had the tiger for 3 years. They are responsible for his skinny condition. Should go to jail.
