@CmdrTobs To clarify then. Government doesn't create jobs in the private sector. They CAN create favourable conditions for growth as Ken Clarke says but the only jobs they directly create are in the public sector, paid for by the private sector thus stifling overall growth.

Regardless, it must still live within its means.

@skeletorphd "Government doesn't create jobs" -What does that mean? Because the government DEFINITELY does create jobs you I can name dozens of them. What the government struggles to do is directly create desirable economic expansion.

In fact it's optimal for government to spend counter cyclical to business and get some of it's responsibilities done (Trident, Roads, Airports) at this time as resources and labour are in surplus (cheap) as the private sector isn't using them.
