  • I think I know when the instructor took over :))) Looks fun.. and a bit dangerous :)

  • Good effort. It's easy for the lounge room "pilots" to slag off those who have tried it.

  • @phrozen17 The rotor blades are spinning faster than what it appears because the camera shutter speed does not match the rotor speed it appears as if they move slower

  • Wow those rotar blades turn slow. It's amazing they can create lift going that speed.

  • Nice one! not a bad attempt... It takes so little movement in your part to move the helicopter a massive amount...

  • I remember thinking during my first hover lesson that if I didn't know it was possible I would have sworn it couldn't be done, then it all came together a few lessons later and it seemed like the helicopter and I were one machine... well almost, most of the time. Thanks for the video.

  • @MontyMotoBoy Well i've progressed a long way since my first hover attempt. i'm now doing solo navigations. I've covered everything from slope landings to engine failure in the hover. .imited power. autorotations. i'm almost there with my ppl(h). Lots of written exams to do. Hopefully i'll get there someday.

  • @benjyboba I was exactly the same. Took me a little while to learn that hovering required minute cyclic inputs....and the pedals being the simplest control was the one that took me the longest to master strangely enough. I think years of r/c choppers worked for me in some instances, and against me in others (pedals).

Models are fun, but the real thing is awesome!!!!

  • @motokid032 As a long time Sim pilot and a new (to rotor wing) student pilot I can tell you that a Sim can give you practical knowledge of the flight system but can never truly prepare you for flight. e.g. my instructor was impressed by my coordination between the cyclic, collective and torque pedals in forward flight, but i was sadly unaware of the sensitivity that comes with a hover. And learning the throttle was a whole new ball game!

  • I could hover almost perfectly the very first time I tried in a r22. I have had experice with models. I did however not do as well with the pedals initally. I keep it fully under control in a hover with all controls. when I went up, It caused the heli to turn and I pressed the wrong pedal which put us in a very fast spin. Now i'm doing solo navigation. I've done slope landings and limited power and all sorts. Its good fun.

  • Keeping a 22 stable over a fixed point on the ground is very difficult, it however becomes very important when you move on to doing confined space training. Add a little wind to this and the stress level goes through the roof!!

  • Pendular action!... took me 5hrs to get through that... then you can do it with your eyes shut!
