@kanguesso They arent the founders of Jiu Jitsu, they took and modified Jiu Jitsu into a different style. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. There are similarities between the two, but BJJ isnt the same thing. Its designed for a smaller fighter to defeat a larger opponent.

@oodles86 you're thinking of ralph, renzo's brother. bj left his school to train with nova uniao guys and he took it as betrayal. renzo fought bj in a k1 mma match and didn't like him because of what he had heard from his brother.

1915 from brazil... Before that it was japan... Before that it was said to be practiced even in india travelling east through china practiced by buddhist monks also.. Japan is where it got more famous.... Dunno how real that is, but the info is from a gracie barra school.

@kanguesso Gracies was the founders of Brazilian Jiujitsu, Carlos Gracie learned japanese jiujitsu from Mitsuyo Maeda, wich was a Judo expert who emigrated to Brazil, then gracies developed jiutsu to their reality. The old school jiujitsu is way different than nowadays.

How are the Gracies the "Founders" of JJ when they learned it from a world champion Japanese guy? They maybe the ones who brought Jiu Jitsu to the west and the rest of the world but the "Founders"? I am not hating, it is an honest question so Gracie lovers please take it easy.
