the mute spectator

the mute spectator is a short film created by the students of Christ University, Bangalore. A simple film created by amateur film makers features the street life and tries to portray life on streets through a vision of a dog, identifying the common loops holes such as theft, drug dealing etc...


We often see people commenting upon the evident distinction between the rich and poor in our country and most of these directed on the irresponsible nature of the politicians. What most citizens fail to do is to take action in order to make a change in the injustice witnessed in everyday life. The situation is not quite changed from the past. From people begging on streets, children being forced to take up menial jobs and actively engaging in bribery to people in the present day breaking traffic rules, dwelling on streets and lacking civic sense, things haven't moved forward.

Our story seeks to emphasize on the situation and depict it in a way to make the audience realize how each of us, just like the animal, witness each of these acts as a passer by and still fail to make a change. We are unable to speak up against the unsuccessful attempts of the authorities to make a change and are not willing to stand up and make a difference ourselves. We are merely mute spectators who want to remain as a part of the mob mentality, locked up in our safe cocoon in order to protect oneself.
In the end, we try to convey the message that we need to put our selfish desires aside for a while and put our act of kindness and responsibility together so that we can make a considerable difference to the community and help in the collective well being of people along with improvement in the current scenario of the street life.
