Darkness - "Gene pitney" - Teanscribed by Brent441

Darkness, only darkness
Land of shadows
That's where my heart goes
Now I am alone, I'm on my own

Voices, I hear voices
Sounds in the still night everywhere
But you're not there
But you're not there

Imagination brings you so near
I long to hold you, but you are not here
I reach for memories closing in as one
I walk a little faster, than I start to run

Run from Darkness, only darkness
Land of shadow
That's where my heart goes
Now I am alone, I'm on my own

I long to hold you, thrill to your charm
But how can I hold shadows in my arms?
I reach to find you, stumbling through the night
Stumling in my sadness, looking for the light

But there's darkness, only darkness
Land of shadow
That's where my heart goes
Now I am alone, I'm on my own

  • I love his voice style in this song

  • Never heard this and the recording doesn't do justice to his voice, bc we all know he was one of the best tenors out there. To me the best. Then there was Orbison, Jay Black, Frankie Valli and the one and only Johnny Contardo.

  • Where can i get this song? I can't find it on iTunes anywhere... :(

  • Wow!! This is great. First time hearing this early Pitney gem.

    Thank you,

    ken

  • He even had strength in his voice in high school. I like the way he took this and developed it into a one of a kind voice. I respect that he accepted himself and did not have to dress up or act on stage. He just sang from the heart.

  • wow - never heard this one before - thanks for uploading. What year was this recorded? Do you have any more of these gems?

  • His vibrato is very similar to Phil Ochs' on this recording.

  • ccol! where'd you dig this one up..? great song

  • Good early Gene Pitney.Never heard it before.
