@NETWizzJbirk no I'm not a programmer I just want to have the ability to scan any barcode to the UPC Database website and look it up. and also to scan every type of barcode and output the numbers to notepad. I can do that with my webcam (PS2 EyeToy) and a flash barcode scanner on a website but I have to copy and paste it to the UPC Database site but it's a pain.
@coondogtheman1234 Yes,it acts like a USB keyboard. Just make sure when you buy you verify it has the USB interface because there are other legacy options available like PS/2 & Serial for antiquated Point-Of-Sale equipment companies sometime still use. Search Youtube for VoyagerGS to see videos. Check buy.com (they had the best price of $112). Are you a programmer? I bought it to write a fixed-asset inventory program; I also added my books (100+) to Google bookshelf using ISBN in minutes.
does that just plug into USB and that's it or does it need software to use? I've been pretty sucessful using my PS2 EyeToy camera as a webcam and using an online flash barcode reader. now if it could only look them up automatically when I scan them.
@coondogtheman1234 Okay, so buy one. They Voyager GS is very good and reads all the typical 1D barcodes including the UPC as well as Code 39 and Code 128, so it will also work on asset tags etc. Oh, it will read UPS (not the Maxicode), USPS, & FedEx, too as well as ISBN. All for about $112 and it can scan over a foot away upside down, diagonal, tilted... It is a very good scanner.
