  • Chuffed you like that one David. At 8% this is on the lower end of barley wine ABVs but as I only had pint bottles I didn't want anything too strong - maybe next time. A lot of the flavours you were picking up came from the yeast strain that I used (T58 for any homebrewers out there).The grain used was just maris otter and pilsner malts.

  • Ive always been scared of brewing a barley wine because within 2 pints im way over my head.

  • Great review Dave, I'd love to try some homebrew, suppose it will come in time! It's great to meet like minded people who can appreciate real ale, I know what you mean about people at work, I get the piss taken out of me for being an 'old man' for drinking real ale. It's a shame lager drinkers can't open their eyes!! cheers- Elvis
