Pine Marten

A Pine Marten, cage trapped in Co. Leitrim, Eire. I love his little growls :D

Pineys are fully protected here and I caught him while after mink. I use cages so I can let pine martens go - as I did this chap, seconds later.

I'd say pine marten now out number mink by about 5 to 1 in Co. Leitrim. They even seem to be extirpating the mink.

Pine Martens are awesome! They are protected here, but I had the chance to see one live trapped and they are beautiful!

@088Cole : You got it! I've cut down on my trapping these days. But, if ever I happen to end up with a Pine Marten, I try to make the most of the event by showing local people ~ children especially. For the kids, I figure the enduring memory will simply be that 'The Man' explained they were harmless enough creatures. And let it go.

Please dont kill minks either. They are voracious predators but trapping them might make you one of them in the next life - and you dont want to end up being skinned.
