The album "From Elvis Presley Boulevard" was recorded between days 2 and February 7, 1976.
"The Last Farewell" was composed and recorded in 1971 by Roger Whittaker on a poem by Ron A. Webster.
Barbara Bonner, one of Elvis' close friends, convinced the singer to record this song. The song tells the story of a British soldier says goodbye to his sweetheart before he went to war.

This song is a mixture of takes # 5, from which most of the song and the take # 3, added at its end, all were performed on 2 february, the first day of recordings at Graceland

  • WOW!!!! What a song and what a "golden performer"!!!! Never been anything like him before or after HIM!!!!!!!!

  • @Jan007golden So true! Thanks for watching and your comment: TCB

  • I admit to preferring Roger Whittaker's version, but having said that, I also find Elvis's version to be very moving, and I really love this video tribute to The King. Thanks for posting this great memory to a polished performer who died too young.

  • @stellabystars Thank you for your comment, TCB

  • @stellabystars I, too, prefer Roger's version, but this is just beautiful. It would have been even better if he had been the only one singing...no back up singers. They actually detract from the song. His voice alone brings out the emotion. What a beautiful voice that man had.

  • @msymsed Thank you for your comment, I think the Elvis version is great, but everyone has their point of view and I like to know! Thank you for comment. TCB

  • @msymsed totally agree, much too much backing singers. As if Elvis needs help! lol I think this is why Rogers version is slightly better, his voice too is best un-meddled with.

  • Music gets a straight connection to our soul . This is the reason of being so emotional when we hear such wonderful performers like them. We come alive. Thank you for uploading it.

    G-d bless

  • Awesome song....thanks babe for sharing it with me. now your going to play it!!!

    sasha

  • elvis did good job on this song. thanks for the vid.

  • Don't forget, it's not just Whittaker's version - he co-wrote it! This is a nice cover tho.

  • @twinflame1000 I agree this song belongs to Roger Whittaker

  • @twinflame1000 I have to agree. Elvis treats this as just another romantic song and misses the raw emotion that Roger brings to it. I can't listen to the original without a tear in my eye.

  • @MegaJackbest

thanks!. there's no way this elvis version comes close to rogers whittakers! whittakers is way better. his gentle and soothing voice suits the song more.

  • I've heard Rogers version, which is great, but Elvis's version has made this an Elvis Song! thanks Elvis for giving us so many great songs to listen to! we miss you!

  • @LadyScorpio39 i agree with you
