Educate yourself about the invasive algal species, Didymo. Virginia's Finest Fisheries Biologists Paul and Dawn explain the recent infestation on the Jackson River, in the Upper James Basin.
Having fished the Jackson, I can see that Didymo is a problem below Gathright Dam. People may think it is innocuous but on slower stretches of water it will deplete the river of oxygen and harm invertebrate life - and hence fish. They didn't say it but it's call it eutrophication. I haven't seen signs of it above Moomaw. Every angler should follow the advice and make sure they don't transfer it. You have some wonderul rivers (as someone from the UK) - so hope people listen and be aware.
