If you Google "No Shampoo" you will find a long list of websites that talk about the novelty as well as health benefits of giving up commercial shampoo products. In this video, created for my blog http://www.iParker.com I talk about my experience after giving up shampoo in the spring of 2009 and what I learned in the past seven months including debunking some myths and misconceptions about the "No Poo" movement.

Nancy Parker has worked helping people for over twenty years. As an undergraduate she studied the psychophysiology of stress and spent the next two decades teaching other people to work comfortably with technology. From a young age she was drawn to music and learned quickly that it is a powerful tool that can excite or calm the body-mind. Nancy has authored several meditation tracks that are available at Amazon.com in addition to a series of free YouTube videos. http://www.youtube.com/user/CoolKarmaVideo

Nancys cookbook The 30-Day Vegetarian also available at Amazon.com, explores the treasures of cruelty minimized eating as well as introducing her readers to a whole new showcase of grains, pulses and good old fashion comfort food at its best. http://30dayvegetarian.com/

Nancy openly discusses how she adapts to the health challenges she continues to face and hopes that sharing her story can help others. Her YouTube video on Dysautonomia is an outreach to everyone whith a life limiting chronic illness. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HE26SUkarwI

When faced with her own healing adventures Nancy believes that there are many roads and at the end of the day it matters only that you continue to travel. To learn more about her journey you can follow her blog, http://www.coolkarma.com/dharma/

  • can you use regular conditioner instead of the vinegar? or does that render the entire method pointless?

  • @heytheredenorah Some people ONLY use conditioner. And they do consider themselves part of the No Poo movement. Way I look at it is .. OPTIONS. We can question our beliefs and see what FITS for us in the moment. Experiment and enjoy!

  • I have a question, I have been using no poo method, only two times so far, with baking soda and vinegar, but my hair is now so dry, (it was dry before, but less) and feels like sponge and dirty as straw. Is this normal? Is it part of the adjustment process, or I have been using inadequate amounts, or rinsing wrong?

  • @sandynow -- for me, the dry straw like feeling was that I was not getting the baking soda all out of my hair. What works well for my daughter and I is using a fine tooth comb IN the shower. I comb through the baking soda solution. Then follow with the vinegar solution and comb that through also. Then rinse very well. If my hair still feels a big ... off ... I use straight vinegar. Vinegar conditions the hair and makes sure to dissolve any residue left behind by the baking soda. Good Luck!

  • Love your videos!

My hair responds beautifully to no-poo, but may I ask a question? I notice you say you wash your hair every day.

Most other sources on no-poo say that baking soda is far too drying to use so frequently. Have you found any dryness/damage from daily washing? I have oily hair and sweat heavily, and really need to wash daily, but I am concerned baking soda is too harsh for daily use. I would be really grateful to hear your opinions! Thanks so much! XXX

  • @darscilla -- congratulations on finding something that works for you. :) My hair also tended to be oily and I do need to wash it everyday. I've never had a problem with over drying if I follow with the vinegar rinse. For me that seems to be the key. On occasion, I will even use straight vinegar on my hair. It keeps my hair soft and shiny. Good luck!!!

  • this is filmed REALLY oddly.

  • you look soo funny the way you look down and then suddenly up, and with all those expressions you make with your face! and it's also funny that you insisted on making the whole video in the garden in order to look serene and peaceful, while on the outside all hell's breaking loose in the street!!!

  • You wash your hair every night? Oh god

  • U kinda scare me....

  • I've heard others wash their hair with only water and a brush, it sounded a bit extreme to me in the beginning even though it does make sense that sweat is water based and soluble and oils are meant not to be washed off completely...

  • You know what's another really good movement that's good for the environment, your body, and saves you thousands and thousands of dollars?? Menstrual cups.

  • A tip for dryness while poo-free is taking some oil (sweet almond, grape seed, apricot, coconut, some use olive oil, but i find its too heavy) and applying it into the tips of the hair. It's important that you don't put it near your roots, otherwise you will have a very bad hair day.

    Hope this helps someone!

  • Shampoo free? BEST THING I'VE EVER DONE!

I was using acv and bs for the first 3-4 months, im now at 10 months with water only.

A tip that works for me right now whenever I have a slightly oily scalp, itchy scalp or even a little dandruff is Aloe Vera Gel!! The purest stuff I could find at my local health food store was Jason brand.

I rub it on my scalp a couple mins before taking a shower, rinse it off in the shower (rinses easily) and thats it.

    It works!
