I watched three bands perform at three different times. My 7th graders from Taisha performed at 11:20, then I went back at 2pm to see my "A-Team" band from Taisha perform, and then again at 4pm to see the main band from Hamayama JH.
It was my last time to see the kids from HJH before I leave, so it was a little sad, but I took some good pics and enjoyed hanging out with them after they finished playing.

They all did really well - Taisha's 8th and 9th graders were particularly impressive, so I hope they win a spot in the upcoming prefecture competition and go on to compete in the Chugoku region contest.

More info about the book "Dogs and Demons":

and

I hope to do a series of vlogs examining the book and my take on it when I return to California in the fall.

Enjoy!

  • so how did your school's brass band performed?

    Hope they were good!

and that book...might as well check it out.

    Arigato Sensei-Sama!

  • yeah - they did really well - I have high hopes for one of them to make it past the pref competition to the regional competition

  • Fanu

  • ... :D ...

  • Damn missed first comment lol

Did the band play anything popular? I'm interested as a sax player lol :D

  • this was a more serious competition, so no J-pop tunes in this concert. Longer pieces - many by Japanese composers, but also a sprinkling of familiar Western pieces and marches.

  • Good video!

  • I'm often told that my overheating in summer is due to my total lack of sense.

  • うちわ(uchiwa) ? I may be wrong, been a while...

  • Isn't that type of fan called a harisen?

  • Here they call it 'leque' (pronouced /lek/). I thought it had, but can you confirm it has anything to do with Japanese?

You were born to vlog: no doubt you'll keep me interested, even if San Diego is nowhere near Japan.

  • yeah - it really is great - it was a gift from an appreciative co-worker
