excerpt from one of 2 full concerts shot of Dexys Midnight Runners at HURRAH, the ecclectic New York nightclub of new music which closed in 1981. The small podium set up next to the stage felt like shooting on a pogo stick. I did my best to get some close ups of this exquisite moment and the music carries me every time I watch this!

  • Some of the things I like about this clip.. the stage was too small for Dexys and the challenge augmented their camradery and their evident grace. I love how the sax guy comes out like a hungry elephant in the dark, and how Kevin is kneeling, like we are in a revival meeting. Not depicted in this clip-Kevin chastised the audience calling them souless, I always wondered what triggered that, if it was real anger or part of the show.

  • Dexys Midnight Runners were not just some novelty one-hit wonder act; they were actually a great band. Kevin Rowland was a genius, unique voice, great songwriter. What went wrong?

  • I have a theory. I think they just kept getting better and can't bear looking back at their former glory.

  • That is fantastic. Is there some way to get the full concert?

  • For the moment, no. They are for some reason not keen on this performance, maybe not enough metallic streamers. (ha ha) I love it though. I am considering going door to door with a laptop and making Dexy's Housecalls.

  • Terrific idea! Hopefully you can put New Zealand on your schedule...

  • Ah, land of the long white cloud!

Should I get working on some Maori subtitles?

  • they were a great band

  • My all time favourite Dexys's number. They were amazing live and on record. Idiots who call them one hit wonders, hell, are idiots!

  • Best band ever. Every incarnation was great

  • IL EST TROP modifiedcontent @ BON, PEUT ETRE C EST ONU PROBLEME POUR Certaine

    FRECN FEMME

  • SIMPLY FABOULOUS TILL NOW

  • WOLVERHAMPTONS FAVOURITE SON!!!

  • After you have seen all NZ has to offer (should take at least a day), come by Australia. I'd love to see whole gig.

Given lack of decent Dexys video, think "they" should let "us" see something!

Thanks for posting this. To me it is sublime.

I will subscribe and explore other clips. Cheers again
