Russian Jersey Shore

After the MTV program The Jersey Shore created a ratings bonanza in the U.S., a program based on the same premise but with a Russian flavor, is now being considered in the Brighton Beach area. Makhail Ratikin is attempting to be on the show and has auditioned already. He dropped by the studio to chat with Alyona about why he wants to do this.

A lack of accent? Grow up, people! You don't have to have a thick Russian accent and roll your "r's" to show that u r are Eastern European. Another stereotype - just what we need, ha? But it's true, he doesn't look Russian, and trust me, there WON'T be any "true" (Slavic) Russians on that show - half will be Jewish and half will be Armenian/Georgian. And no, I am NOT a racists - it's just how it is on Brighton Beach - most immigrants represent Jewish Diasporas from Eastern Europe.

is this really necessary ? sure jersey shores a hit but do you know how pissed off the italian community was. brighton beach has such a rich russian culture in my opinion a show like this would not do it any good

@sharkykissa you have a good point, but when people hear "Brighton Beach" they think of russians. and if some Armenian or Georgian, jewish or not will act like a douch then that would make people think that russians are like that, im not racist and have nothing against any nationality or religion, but i dont want Russians to be viewed in a bad way because of a few people on the show, i seen one of the trailers and i was already disappointed a little.

I am sure if the show was named "Russian speaking dolls", 70% of responses would be gone.

In fact, we all know that majority of Americans do not differentiate (and have no desire to do so) between Russian-speaking Jews, Ukrainians, Armenians, Uzbeks, Russians, etc. We are all "Russians" from former USSR, and that is the idea behind the show's name.
