This is an excerpt from the musical where Jesus is giving a sermon on the mount and a hot gospel quartet decides to interrupt for a moment to sing a couple hits off their latest record.
For more on the Cotton Patch Gospel read below:
Cotton Patch Gospel: The gospel of Matthew and John as it was written in the Bible tells the true story of the Savior Jesus Christ who paid the ultimate sacrifice on the cross for our sins and rose on the third day. The Cotton Patch Gospel has taken the Gospel of Matthew and John and placed it into modern day Georgia. The Cotton Patch version of the Bible, which is what this musical is based on, was written by Clarence Jordan in hopes to reach across the pew and help his fellow Southerner to understand the true story of Jesus. Clarence never thought of this as historical text and went on to explain, "We ask our brethren of long ago, to cross the time-space barrier and talk to us not only in modern English but about modern problems, feelings, frustrations, hopes and assurances; to work beside us in our cotton patch or on our assembly line, so that the word becomes modern flesh. Then perhaps, we too will be able to joyfully tell of 'that which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes and have felt with our hands, about the word of life' (I John 1:1)." It is my hope that you walk away from this Cotton Patch with an understanding of Christ's love for you and the ultimate price He paid on the cross to rescue those that believe and call Him Savior in their life, John 3:16.
