This reading of the Chautauqua Declaration was the culmination of the 3rd Annual International Humanitarian Law Dialogs, held Aug. 31-Sept. 1, 2009, at Chautauqua Institution. The Dialogs focused on "Honoring Women in International Criminal Law: From Nuremberg to the ICC (International Criminal Court)." Elizabeth Andersen, Executive Director and Executive Vice President of the American Society of International Law (ASIL), read the declaration of current and former international prosecutors Alphonse Van (International Criminal Tribunal for Rawanda), Norman Farrell (International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia), Joseph Kamara (Special Court for Sierra Leone), Fatou Bensouda (International Criminal Court), David Crane (Special Court for Sierra Leone), H.W. William Caming (Nuremberg) and, in abstentia, the late Henry T. King, Jr. (Nuremberg). The prosecutors' comments on the Declaration are posted in parts 2 and 3.
