Lifting a trailer, it took a minute to realise the popping is the cable wrapped poorly and falling over itsself. You have to keep tension on the hoist at all times to prevent that from happening.

  • posted november '08. is this harb-freight winch still WORKING? what's your best guess as to how many times -total- you've lifted the trailer up and down it?

  • @hardwares1 Yes, it is still working. I used it as pictured for about 2 years before moving. I used the trailer nearly every weekend, so lets call it about 75 times. Currently im using the hoist to stack/unstack seasonal crates. The cable has held up well.

  • I can use that thing to get my fat ass old lady off the couch, but I will still have to figure out how to make the door on my trailer wider. Then I can hose her off and change her moo moo.

  • I don't know if I'd feel confident walking under that.

  • You pay for what you get!! You can buyall day on craigslist for $30-40 from people who bought that junk. Thats why it jumps from this $80-90 one to a superwinch or a Dutton-Lainson for $300 starting price.

  • Add a heavy weight of some kind above a few inches above the red disc so there is always tension on the cable and still be able to give slack to the hook for removal and hooking.

  • @nonamenowwhat '.. Harbot Freight distributes junk tools ..'

Have purchased many tools from Harbor Freight and none used properly within specs have failed me so far. Certainly happens occasionally, but not as a rule to justify that statement.

  • @tentoto '.. keep my trailer stored the same way ..'

Same here . No space outside, so trailer is stored above parked truck. Concrete ceiling is plenty strong and four cables, one on each corner, secure it. With everything already in place, takes only a minute or so to either take it down or put it up.

  • Great Idea.I keep my trailer stored the same way.I keep it clean and waxed, out of the weather, and allways in the garage. The Harbor Freight hoist are Fantastic.

  • He put it up there to see if it would hold. Harbot Freight distributes junk tools so it's always good to test them before use
