I'm trying to decide between the Topaz 20 and something less expensive by Brother (not sure which model yet).
If I'm mainly doing satin stitch on polar fleece applique do I really need the Topaz? I'm also looking for embroidery software like 4D embroidery extra. Any recommendations?

I have 4D Extra and Embird. Software is VERY pricy when it comes to manufacturer brands. 4D Extra is nice and I have enjoyed using it but Embird has more features. I don't know what software Brother uses.
Make sure your software converts formats, has thread charts, and decent editing skills. Most of the basic software from manufacturers don't,forcing you to go up to their next tier. IE, 4D Extra.
Take your time checking out machines and find one you love. Hope I've helped some.

Check out the Brother machines and compare them to the Topaz 20. Topaz's claim are the large hoop sizes and TOL features for a base model sewing/embroidery machine. However; it is still a base model. No touch screen and the designs are stored on a USB stick.
If you really need the larger hoops that the Brother may not have, it might be worth the investment. Brother machines are pretty user friendly and have great features as well.
Embird is great software. Download a free trial.
