Rwanda Button?
I tease, thanks for this helpful tutorial. Didn't know volume lights were this easy. Now comes the hour or two setting up all of the parameters the way I need them. I love you 3Ds Max.

THOSE OF YOU who wonder why an object doesn't show shadows in front of a light, the only shadow that works with volume light is Shadow Map and only Spot and Direct Lights, even if you use VRay, use the default Shadow Map of Max. It's a pretty old effect, that's why is so restrictive

I am using 2011 3DS Max. When I add a light and render the scene it is dark. I cannot find the option on the modifier tab to "use in rendering" or "use in viewport" The light is turned on. Please help.

@VisualKnights When i do a volume light with mr sun and mr sky on it comes out black, as if its the inverse of what is wanted. Iv tried tweaking the settings (reversing colour etc) but have no idea how to do it. Any ideas? Cheers.

@gwill50. In the sun settings you can select in a list, which objects need to be affected by the sun light. Here you deselct the volume light.

In the light options, turn on 'use in render' and use in viewport.

Select your light and go to the modify tab (0.50, the menu on the right). Depending on what light you have you can turn it on or of. But you also set the intensity by changing the multiplier value.
