Breaking in my Springfield M1A rifle (civilian M14). Equipped with Smith Enterprise USCG muzzle brake, ARMS #18 Scope mount (Nikon Monarch 3X9X40 scope not shown) and Karsten adjustable cheek piece. I have since bought birch and walnut stocks in addition to this synthetic one (I prefer the wood). The muzzle brake reduces felt recoil 25-30% and muzzle rise by nearly 100%. I've fired over 200 rounds in a day with no shoulder soreness with it at all.

I own a M1A and a M4 and if I were told tomorrow I was going to be dropped in combat in Iraq and was only able to take 1 rifle it would be my M4 both are great rifles the M1A has a more powerful round and more stopping power but a well placed 5.56 will do plenty of damage and I can carry LOTS more 5.56 rounds vs. 7.62x51 and the rifle itself is much lighter But dont get me wrong I am not taking away form the M1A at all it has its +'s over the M4 too just in a CQB type of combat Id prefer an M4

Aside from my M1A I also have a Bushmaster M4. I agree its a great weapon but after having fired the M1A I feel like the m4 is almost toylike. Of course its .223 rounds are more than lethal, but the heft and feel fo the M1A is awesome.

Must have one. I've seen the synthetic stock break on same day of purchase and within the first several rounds. Any thoughts on this. Random fluke or a problem with the stocks? Curious about this. I'm leaning towards a wooden stock now.

I've noticed that whenever I get into this arguement, both sides are convinced they're right and the other is wrong. So that aside, I've been trained to use slow concentrated fire. Shooting less rounds and making sure they hit your target. "One shot, one kill." So with that training mentality, I'm convinced that a heavier, farther reaching bullet will more effectively kill my enemy than several smaller bulllets with less range and impact. Jesus would agree.

not only that but the good ol m1a and m-14 rifles, like their father the m1 garand are extremely reliable in all weather and terrain. they dont need grease to be fired and work, and jam everytime you sneeze like an m-4, and what is the point of being able to carry twice as much ammo, if you need three rounds to kill someone.

They are expensive. But worth every penny. I have an LRB M14SA myself. - I have not done this with my LRB, but I had an M1A once that I used to "bump fire." Now THERE is some real trench digging.

The battle strategy of wounding your enemy instead of killing him has been foolishness since its inception. The M14 never had this problem.
