Sometimes art imitates life, and when it does, it can be very therapeutic. Such is the case when the lives of four Anishinabek (Ojibway) youth change forever as they land the lead roles in a film drama designed to combat suicide, depression and racism (Seeking Bimaadiziiwin). Delving into their roles, the youth discover striking parallels between their fictional characters and their own lives. Through their participation in the film, they develop tools that help them build a framework to remedy their own struggles with abuse, alcohol, poverty and racism.

The Healing Lens is a documentary of inspiration that brings humanism and personal reference to the unfolding story of this generation of native youth. The film exemplifies the far-reaching effects of Canadas racist policies on todays young people. In real life, each of these four remarkable young people are overcoming the past and are engaged in unique ways of healing themselves - ways we can all learn from.

  • How did the documentary do at DOXA Documentary Film Festival in Vancouver this may?! So want to see the film! . . .

  • Sounds epic, I hope this gets more publicity than it has now... this should have way more than 33 views. Hopefully this movie does great, it'd be great for something like this to come out in an attempt to help the native youth who are suicidal. Good stuff, more things should be done like this

  • So excited to see the trailer out! :D
