http://www.eavestrough.ca Removing the plywood has allowed for us to install proper venting into the attic space. This ensures the air that is coming in from the new vented soffits will make it up into the attic space.
These baffles will transport the cool air in over top of the insulation in the attic. These vents are about 3 feet long and extend up the underside of the roofline to ensure they do no get plugged by the thick layer of insulation that you need in your attic.
When you achieve an insulation value of R=50 in the attic it is about 16 inches thick and will block the airflow without these baffles in place.
The key to a properly functioning attic space is lots of ventialtion and insulation. This will prevent ice build up, prolong the life of your shinlges and reduce heating and cooling costs.

  • @beepilot1 The warm air exiting the peak of the roof will create a slight vacuum and pull cool air in the through the soffits. So yes you are also right in saying.

  • cool air sinks, warm air rises!
