Sinewave has stayed a week at the Electrical Audio Studios in Chicago for the mixing sessions for Anatema, the new album by Brazilian post-rock combo Labirinto. While the band was turning up knobs and buttons with producer Greg Norman, we sat for a chat with the studio owner, Mr Steve Albini lui-même. We talked about Shellac, ATP, festivals, music journalism and so forth. He also reminded his days on recording bands like Mono, Slint, Mogwai, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Fugazi, Nirvana and several others. The songs we play are noisy nonetheless - Albini's Big Black and Shellac, Sinewave's Wry and Herod Layne, and two songs chosen by the interviewee - a new Nina Nastasia release and a Stooges classic.
