Isn't it rice pound cake?

I have an old recipe from a Japanese friend for a sweet butter coconut mochi cake. It comes out a lot like the Hawaiian "Haupia". It's YUMMY!

Mochi in soup = amazing!

You mentioned two of my favorite ways of eating mochi, which is soup and baked with soyu and nori. When I was a kid it was mochi with kinako (my English spelling of Japanese words is probably way off). I wish all mochi had the consistency of the daifuku, so I don't have to worry about choking on a piece of mochi. Every time I see someone vlogging from Japan, I want to go visit my birthplace and see relatives that I haven't seen in probably 27 years.

Interesting. I recently started to buy the dry version of mochi from a health food store and have it baked in small pieces, then sprinkled with olive oil and parmesan cheese when sizzling hot. East meets west ;-) I also used to buy the fresh soft version dipped in sesame powder from a Chinese bakery. Are both dry and soft versions called the same ? Makes it a bit confusing when describing it to others. Thanks for the video.

@nominal6 Sounds tasty. They are always called mocha, dry or soft. It does make it hard to explain to others.
