Are you seriously talking about religious freedom?

  • when you as a str8 man are denied housing - when you are denied jobs and promotions - denied the ability to serve in the armed forces - denied the right to visit your partner in the hospital when she is ill - denied coverage under your partner's employer's insurance - denied the right to adopt - denied the right to marry - denied the right to live openly without the threat of physical harm - denied the right to inherit - then come to me and say "it's not about civil/human rights."

  • @thegayprovocateur I believe I said it WAS about human rights, not civil rights, as human rights are conceptually more fundamental than civil rights and more important.

  • @LifeIsPietzsche hmmm - i watched your vid several times and never heard you utter the words "human rights." you spoke of gay rights in the context of religious freedom which in itself is a bit bogus because there is no real religious freedom in the U.S. for instance mormons cannot legally become bigamists. to not correctly view the struggle for gay rights as a struggle for civil rights is to place it in the realm of "special rights" which my previous post should make clear - it is not.

  • @thegayprovocateur I'm sorry, I was mistaken, in this video I said "personal rights" instead of "human rights." But I consider them the same thing, the point with religious freedom was that the person I was responding to used religious freedom to justify the legitimacy of prop. 8. But I must make the point that being an atheist falls under religious freedom as well, meaning your personal decisions are not coerced by the government due to religious influence.

"Show me any religion (Christian, Jewish, any for that matter) that condones homosexual sex."

    lets see

    Unitarian Universalism

    Buddhism

    Religious Society of Friends (Quakers)

    Confucianism

    Hinduism

just to name a few, several of which would like to perform legal same sex marriages, and already do perform non legal marriages for same sex couples

  • CA Civil Unions are not given the same rights as marriage. I can not receive Social Security, veteran's benefits and pension plan survivor benefits upon death of partner. Not guaranteed equal benefits from employers. Excluded from long-term care benefits. Not guaranteed family leave to care for ill partner. Not valid outside of the state that grants it. No federal protections. Legal structure to dissolve partnership not guaranteed outside of state.

  • @LifeIsPietzsche no need to apologize - i was simply confused. and i shall not bother you further other than to respond that i grew up where the freedom from religion foundation was created so i am quite familiar with the debate surrounding atheism and the constitutionally protected freedom OF religion - not freedom FROM religion. which i take to mean that non-belief is not considered a religion - otherwise the FFRF could claim a tax exempt status for being a church. thx for your response!

  • great vid!!

  • ummm well i agree with a lot but we are a minority, and umm its not like the cival rights because no one has won anything, we have yet to have a strong(go gaga) enough historical figure to stand up for us like they did, and i don't just mean in america that might be the extent of your sight but i mean all over, every killed, opressed, outcasted human struggleing just because of who they are attracted to.

this is my favorite of your vids i think i like you now, you have some coviction X3
