Complimenti!
Interesting, Any of you notice that this is a live performance? In other words, it is not a recital , where most of us have seen JDF singing this aria. I am a big fan of JDF but we hear it on recording, and think WOW! I give any tenor credit for singing this live because this aria is sung in fourth act!! that is about 3 1/2 hours into opera. Cut the huy some slack. There is a reason this opera is not sung on a regular basis in opera houses..TOO LONG for tenor...
This is not his repertoire! Has to work far too hard and pushes like mad. He's already tired on 04:14 and you can here signs of strain in his voice. The rest is all push push push... full credit to him that he can continue on to the caballetta. Gets thru it but how many perfomances can you do like that? On "défence" at 8:23 he has no more resonance in the lower register.
A clear sign of fatigue. It's not just a matter of range or if you can belt out Cs and C#s. It's only YOUR répertoire if you can do it on yr head. Look at Fisichella. He always sounded as fresh at the end of an Arnold perfomance as he did at the beginning...

One can hope someone will post a video of Florez singing this. It is in his repertoire and according to reviews his singing is beyond sublime.
