reading the comments and seeing no mention of Malvina Reynolds saddens me. She wrote and performed Little Boxes originally and would hate the capitalist cause its now assosiated with! and why change already beautiful lyrics? buy ear to the ground, a great album of hers and has a great introduction by Pete Seeger regarding Little Boxes

As a classical musician and music teacher, I find this less a legitimate criticism. Nobody ever brushed off Maria Callas or Itzahk Perlman because they only "covered" other composers. As the pop music styles that originated in the early 1900s become more a part of our cultural lexicon, and increase in their specificity and complexity (not to say all pop stands up to that standard, obv.), "cover" interpretations by skilled artists should be given consideration similar to classical performers.
