@numag1 If you cut a coin in half then you would lose the face value of the coin. Sure you would be able to melt it down, but many ounce coins are worth the value of the spot price of gold plus the $50 face value. If it is a rare coin it could be worth a lot more.

This test kit is not really for testing gold coins, rings or other junk gold. It is for testing gold that you are mining. There are better ways to test coins and jewelry.

Bottles would have to contain nitric and hydrochloric acid. The testing stone is usually made of basalt. For higher karatages the solution is aqua regia ( a mixture of both acids) Aqua Regia is the only acid that will dissolve gold completely. Nitric acid is used alone for 14K and lower.
