@bretdhogan so true man

Whole discussion is about the word "pro" and what does it mean. Well I am not native english speaker but I know that pro is derived from professional which is derived from profession. That implies to me, that if photography is your profession and you make a living with it you are pro. It doees not implies if you are bad or good. It has nothing to do with it.

i think its between those who see it as an art or a well paying job. i know a fair few people who try to get into it and call their pathetic excuse of an attempt to call themselves a professional and claim 'big money' they think that some photographer earn. i however, dont really see it as either. i enjoy taking photos, i'm not a professional, and i'm not an artist. i just hope that some day i will be recognised for my skill

if you make 60% of your total income a year you're a pro, that simple. at least says the irs.

@bretdhogan not to argue with you but it is depend on what do you interpret of decent. There is an old saying " there is always some one better than you like there is always a higher mountain" . When you say "oh, i am much better than that" , you are stating that you are better than every professional photographers....that is just wrong :D there is no one who is actually the best. Professional photographers are simply people who get paid for what they do. they actually don't enjoy taking picture

@bretdhogan Thats exactly what I say lol

@bretdhogan then you were mocking of people. Professionals GOT paid. PERIOD. i´m not saying that PROs are the BEST of THE BEST but, they jog(my job) is TO DELIVER A PICTURE.
I´m photojournalist.

I usually know who the significant photographers are in music, fashion, editorial, art... Zack Arias is a photographer no one would have heard of in a million years if he hadn't been canny in 'selling tuition' to 'forum bores'. Forum geeks love waffling on about 'strobists' and if a camera is 'pro' or not or what 'pros' do or do not do. I'd far sooner leaf through a good coffee table book or a copy of Vogue Italia for photographic inspiration. The internet is tedium central for photography.

Ahem, I think you mean lacking knowledge of English vocabulary...
I know lots of so-called "pros" who get paid, but can't take a decent pic. So whenever someone asks me, "Are you a professional?"I usually answer, "Oh no, I'm much better than that!"
