We were the last ones to climb Everest that year.

That's why my lips are blue. Not enough oxygen in my blood. That led to untold problems.. but that's another story.
It was great to look down at Changste, which I had seen too often from the Tibetan side. Oh. Yes. I summitted on my fourth attempt. Persistence paid off. And team work. I was carried up there by the faith of a lot of friends.
I babbled in my video camera for quite some time. It felt right to talk about what lives in my heart, the love of my planet and my country's wilderness.
I did not bring any flags with me. I was wearing my flags. The official Australian flag and the Koorie flag, representative of Australia's original culture and people.
Spot the koala. She might have been stuffed, but Sheila Koala was the first Australian koala, male or female, to climb Everest. She is now retired and living in Australia, middle of nowhere.
