US Navy sailors from USS Ronald Reagan helped build a Habitat for Humanity charity house for a Thai girl's family in Thalang.
Last Saturday, after 4 days of volunteer work as part of their Community Relations activities at different schools and orphanages, about 30 different American sailors and aviators each day came from the visiting aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan, to help Habitat for Humanity, Thailand branch of the charity, and Rotary Club of Patong beach, finish about 60-90% of the construction of a single storey house for a Thai girl's family. Nong 'Ern', 10 years old, abandoned by her parents, was found in Patong living with her great grandmother Jay, 64, and grandparents Lang, 43 & Chinagon, 41, and given about 130,000 baht by generous Australian women, Lisa Craig and Jacqui Jewell, to pay for her new house in Paklok, Thalang on 25 square wah. Then at the handover ceremony, Nong Ern personally thanked the US Navy and Uthid Siriarapong, Habitat for Humanity's south Thailand director presented the symbolic key and certificates of appreciation, with a short speech: voice ****
