@mgrnikt. Another case of Wikipedia being wrong - the Poles broke the "commercial" Enigma in Dec 1931, that was the machine that was being used by the Reichsmarine and the Italians. Dilly Knox broke the military Enigma at Bletchley Park in Jan 1940! As a matter of fact, he had also been breaking the Italian coded messages since 1936.

@AtokNiiro. Fair enough!! :)

@TheArdvaark True, and I do know that. But with a 500 character limit in Youtube comments, I had so sum it up somehow :)

@AtokNiiro. Slight correction: the French and British had not "given up"; between the wars there was not the same urgency in either the UK or France to pursue codebreaking as there was in Poland. Poland suffered greatly during WW1 and they wanted to make sure that if WWII were to happen, they wanted to know well in advance. There was not that urgency over here so we didn't investigate as the Poles did. The Poles cracked the "commercial" Enigma whilst we cracked the military version.

@matt007pl666. I think you ought to check your facts! The Poles broke the "commercial" Enigma, used by the Reichsmarine, in Dec 1931 but when Germany introduced the military version, that locked the Poles out. The first break in this version was made by Dilly Knox in Jan 1940 at Bletchley Park. The work that was done there went far in advance of what the Poles had done and it was this work by Turing, Welchman, Tutte, Twinn etc that shortened the war by 2 years. BP also broke Lorenz - alone!!

It was Pole who broke enigma code. Polish mathematicians:Marian Rejewski,Jerzy Rozycki,Henryk Zygalski

Wow what BS documentary, after so many years the western countries still lying. Without the Poles this war would have continued for another extra 2 years.

it is little known that an early version of the Enigma cipher was originally broken by the Poles in 1932. In fact, it was a meeting in July of 1939, between the Polish and British cryptoanalysts, which led to the first break into Enigma in 1940.

@Antekdzi1 about enigma u wrote "the reason it was cracked was because of the polish"
u r right but i ill say the code would not hav been broken without the help of hanz the brother of enigma's founder. but i do giv respect to some great polish mathematicians:)

In Poland, the fear of a German invasion kept the Biuro Szyfrów, the Polish cipher bureau, working on the Enigma introduced in 1926, when French and English bureaus had given up.
Thanks to information leaked by Hans-Thilo Schmidt and the mathematical capability of Marian Rejewski (who created the bomba), the Enigma was broken, and in 1939 the results were shared with England, who continued the work after Poland was invaded.
Without the Polish persistence, the Enigma might not have been cracked.
What a failed documentary, the reason it was cracked was because of the polish
