Why might "the powers that be" want to keep reincarnation a secret? Maybe because if everybody believed in reincarnation we would approach this lifetime with more motivation to learn and grow and evolve spiritually. But people who think this is the only lifetime might be more interested in extracting as much pleasure and joy out of life as possible (at the expense of others), thus giving in to desires and impulses that are greed-based and which keep the rich and powerful in control of society.

@AgimA74 True, but even that's only the tip of the ice berg. The universe is pure energy. Everything is energy; you, I, your desk, stars, everything. The first law of thermodynamics states energy cannot be destroyed, it can only be transformed. For humans to believe the physical world we perceive daily is the only form of existence is ridiculous. There are many different dimensions, some physical but less dense than our own, some not physical at all. Reincarnation is simply part of cosmic law.
