The first documentary film I made whilst at University.

"Treforest - A Lost Community" is about the deterioration of Treforest's community due to it becoming a 'student village'. As I am originally from Treforest this subject is very personal to me.

Since filming, Treforest Primary school was closed and has been now been demolished, and The Pink Shop is now under new management.

  • I went to Glamorgan Uni so I have no issues with the actual university, but really speaking a university should never of been allowed to commence in such a small village. It's tragic what has happened there. I would love to still be living there but it breaks my heart every time I drive through there now, it ain't a speck on the place it used to be.

  • It all started with the student take over. Half the houses in Treforest wouldn't be empty or used as drug factories if the university wasn't given the chance to take over the village.

  • Not at the time I made this doc though.

  • I didn't realise it was you then Ry, haha. This is on my facebook page too ry, in it's full length. Youtube won't let me upload anything on here over ten mins so have to split everything up :op

  • Part 2 is on it's way :o) Uploading it now. Is Brynmill where all the students now reside, near the university? Treforest is a really small village and since the university became a university (it used to be a polytechnic) it's completely student-ridden now. Everything is aimed at students. It's really sad as it was a great place to grow up.

  • I'm now moving from treforest to Rhydfelin as well. Glad to see people saying good things about Rhydfelin. Hope will have a good time with the community in there. Thanks for the video.

  • oh no, the bins!!

  • Hywl!

i studied in Pryfisgol Morganwg, well everyone there works in the university, isnt it? local people are amazing!!! Surely there were some probs with some students, but i guess that is better workin for the uni than on the mines or factories.

  • I lived in treforest with a group of students, they were all nigerian and always caused a mess.

  • I suggest you look again, there are more junkies and pot growers in Treforest than students.
