Patong Jet ski damaged & disputed

Just a short clip after a jet ski was badly damaged on Wednesday 13 April, Songkran water festival day, at about 12 noon when according to a British tourist she and American friend fell off but the machine kept going and crashed into a 'cliff' or rocks presumably near Kalim, north of Patong. Her friend suffered a broken leg and went to hospital. She said on camera if they had stayed on they would be dead. The Thai owners brought the machine to Loma Dolphin Park about 4.30pm and wanted the tourists to pay 13000 dollars (about 390000 baht) even though they signed an insurance policy which should cover most damage costs at a much lower standard rate. A Beach Patrol officer helped them discuss the dispute and was about to take them to the Thai police station; I was just passing and filming the water festival (with a plastic cover over camera hence some distortions) but advised her to tell the Tourist Police and Honorary Consul if any problem....

This is a very common "scam" in Phuket - especially in Patong Beach. These guys make a very good living out of overcharging tourists for damage caused to jetskis, they can turn quite violent if you don't pay. Don't rent from these vultures.

@MarinoSumo80. The renters paid for insurance when they rented the jetski. The jetski was faulty and cause a man to break his leg. The jetski owner should pay the hospital bill and compensation for the man their jetski injured. The renters should pay nothing and should be paid for the injuries that the faulty jetski caused.
