Divers have spent the past ten years searching for the wreckage of this Second World War Russian submarine. The S-2 class vessel went down in 1940 when it hit a mine. All 50 of its crew perished. The sub came to grief off the Aland islands in the Baltic Sea. It's thought to have been on its way to hunt down ships laden with ore. It was last seen by the keeper of the Maerket lighthouse who saw it briefly before he heard a huge explosion. The discovery of the wreck finally settles a long-standing dispute between Sweden and Finland whose war archives each claim the sub sank in their waters. The dive team can now definitively say the wreck lies in Finland's territory.
