UK Insurer Aviva is launching a new advertising campaign to communicate that the UK's largest insurance company, Norwich Union, is changing its name to Aviva.
The high-profile campaign, created by AMVBBDO, was launched today 26 December across national broadcast, print, outdoor and online media, and will run for six months.
The company already trades as Aviva in over 20 markets across Europe, North America and Asia Pacific and the change of name in the UK marks the final phase of the company's move to a worldwide brand. Norwich Union will change its name in June 2009.
The first TV execution in the new Aviva advertising campaign features A-List celebrities who have changed their names, before becoming internationally recognized for their talent. Stars including Bruce Willis, Elle Macpherson, Ringo Starr, Dame Edna Everage, and Alice Cooper ask themselves: "Would this have happened if my name had been...?"
[ DECEMBER 2008 ]
This version of the AVIVA commercial features Elle Macpherson rather than Dame Edna Everage.

Yet in the next advert Ringo says don't call him by his stage name - so logically the name change to Aviva is to be disregarded as Aviva is to Norwich Union what Ringo Starr is to Richard Starkey.
90 Millions seems way too much money to put on a TVC. Even if it increases Aviva awareness from 35 to 80% (so they say). Bottom line, it's their shareholders money...
Of course, Ringo, you owe your entire career to that cunning decision to change your name. It's lucky that John, Paul and George joined your band and cashed in on your success, which all hung on your name. Wise move, Ringo!
