@pilchard96 If you look at the dialogue in the show versus the lyrics, the dialogue sticks pretty close to the text of the original play, whereas the lyrics are more contemporary, to show that these adolescent feelings are timeless. So the use of mics, a very modern prop, is used to draw you out of the 19th century setting of the show, and show that although this play was originally written in 1890, the emotions of the characters still ring true today.
@irishwhitie444 Fair play! I don't know a lot about this work, I just took them as props, which I feel take away from the realism of the piece, but if this is an artistic venture then fair enough :)
@pilchard96 I didn't create or direct the show, so I can't say I know the exact reason why. However I was in a production of this show over the summer. I played Hanschen. I knew that I'd be using hand held mics, so to justify it (for me, personally) I took as an extension of the character's dreaming. Every character in the show is yearning for something, and I think that using mics allows the characters to step out of reality for a moment and just say everything they want to say.
Oh dear. The Hanschen is too self-aware and over the top. Mugging is not acting. The girls are great though. Georg looks perfect but I am sad he isn't closer to his teacher when she pops her top.
I'm not a fan of this Thea. Seems too animated.

@pilchard96 The hand helds don't actually work.

Why are they using hand held mics when they have head-mounted ones?
