My most popular youtube video so far...remixed a bit. This is a bunch of flights of my Wakefield model from the very first to some better flights. The model is powered by a rubber strand which is wound several hundred times to drive the propeller.

  • is the plane scratch built?

  • Not scratch built. It is available as a kit. It is of the printed balsa variety, so it is only one step removed from scratch built as far as I would be concerned.

  • Hi! I´ve been Checking your wakefield videos.

I Still think that problem may be a small prop (prop dimentions) because moedel is flying ok,only problem must be that winds are being developed too fast! My MT 1939 can stay up for at least 4 minutes with 430 turns and up to 6oo ensure that mnodel will certainly reach africa! Be carefull with thermals: By the way, my wife is also my official camera!

  • Thank you for your interest in my airplane. I've been building them for about 15 years now. Unfortunately, the weather has not permited flying lately in western NY. With any luck I will have some video of some decent flights up this summer.

  • Small strands of rubbber and lots of them :P

  • I would be interested to know the size and number of strands of your motor?

Are you using lube? What size propeller are you using? Also I hate to be a critic but , from the video your propeller looks to be about 2" too small for that airplane. I"m using a single blade, folder set up on my Korda Wake. It's pretty big, flies the old Korda great (36" span).

  • Good video bug. I left a comment on your "repair" video also. Looks like you could uses either a small (1/32") shim under the rear of the horizontal stab or a little clay on the tail. Try one of the Souper P-30 kits. Really fly great right of the board. Pretty easy to build too. I like the looks of the old timers myself.

  • Hi: My father was George Reich, winner of the 1961 Wakefield World Championship. I have a DVD of him flying a Wakefield with my husband in Shelby, Oh in '07 if you would like a copy. I also have photos going back to the '30s.

  • Hi !

that plane looks really nice, I´ve been watching... guess that prop looks too small, then it foes too fast and winds are bein wasted too fast with little power, So nicely built plane should fly even much better. If you ad that modification put a DT there, you will need it!

  • where did you get youre wakefield, i build balsa and tissue airplanes
