  • I've now played this video more than any other on Youtube now, and that's not an exaggeration. This thing makes me want to dance, laugh, cry. It's humbling to watch these musicians create this amazing delirium of music with such intelligence, and watch their faces so concentrated and absorbed...Liam O'Flynn looking positively serene...thank you Planxty, and thanks bilko.

  • There is something very special about this performance. I can't put my finger on it, but it's not just the tremendous playing, it's the atmosphere in the room... as if the audience is aware that they are in the presence of greatness and are hearing something truly awe-inspiring for the first time, but before Planxty had become a big name. All the postings from this performance are among my favourites on YouTube.

  • ...Just look at the young audience, all sitting on the floor, legs crossed and crammed into one another. Was this at a school or something?? I should think so, since I hate the idea of going to such a concert and be sat on the floor with everyone else, I'd rather be stood up and dancing... Yet you'd only be able to do Irish dancing to music like this, so I'd try my best not to kick anyone's legs!!

  • And then Donal sails away on his giant bouzouki haha

  • Keep coming back to this every day

  • Wow, what perfection, stunning performance. Talking about stunning! who is the babe at 2.59 to 3.05?. She is beautiful:).

    Patrick (Ireland).

  • Great music, great comments, great post! *****

  • Speaking as a piper who's mostly occupied trying to learn some of his extensive articulation, I longed for such string players many years before Planxty appeared. We used to put up with 4-5 conventional folk music chords by pianos or guitars, which is a serious disservice to the drones and the quick-changing trad melodies. If I had to choose between gaining more of O'Flynn's skills and that kind of accompaniment, it'd be a tough choice.
