The great Martin Jarvis relates the sad tale of a kid who knew his green cross code, but just didn't think about it. And now he's dead. DEAD. Don't cry, you little bastards, it's his own fault he's dead! He's an idiot! He deserved to die! WILL YOU PLEASE STOP CRYING

Originally uploaded by GlamKing within a 1995 BBC1 closedown, which is no longer on the Tube. Reuploaded here for your convenience, complete with tautological endline by a lady-type for a change. Specifically, the lovely Ms Jayne Constantinis, the foremost lady continuity announcer of the Lambie-Nairn era BBC, and one of the few who habitually gave their name at the end of the day, which I always thought was a nice thing to do.

This appears to be one of those stimulus-response PIFs, concentrating on one specific aspect of the green cross code (ie NOT CHARGING ACROSS THE DAMN ROAD LIKE AN IDIOT) in a way which suggests - and this is mere spectaculation - that that one thing, the not stopping, is considered the biggest "knowledge gap" at that mid-nineties juncture. In human (rather than lizard) speak: kids knew the green cross code alright - Jarvis even acknowledges it in his voiceover - they just weren't stopping at the kerb, being children and therefore blessed with the patience of a wildcat in heat.

  • Kerb? You mean Curb? haha FIAL!

  • @DOAxDeSoLaTiOn No, they mean Kerb. As in the edge of a pavement. Not as in "Your Enthusiam".

    Also: FAIL.

  • The acting is terrible.

  • @Glasscerberus Unfortunately, the best actor in the room isn't visible.

  • HIIIIIIII!

  • @easportsbig899 That is some impressive sound-carrying air.

  • Thank God the skateboard survived without injury.

  • There is a longer version of this on the 2 disc dvd set STOP, LOOK, LISTEN by the BFI/COI..!

  • remember a slightly similar one was shot entirely from a kid's pov, with the narrator saying how he liked to run everywhere, ending with him hit by a car, and the narrator closing "and he ran...to his death!" and cut to the kids coffin being lowered into the ground, from the early 90s i think, there were a couple with a similar theme

  • Probably shown before bbc1 closed down @ night in the 80s or 90s.....they tend to show the listings for next day, the weather, and if there was time, any PIF to waste some time, then a timecheck, a goodnight and salute (with 2 fingers) to the queen....!

  • A woman doing the endline?I've never heard that before.
