hmmm...She could be singing back up for the lead when I listen again. Wonder who is singing lead?

Adelaide Hall was an extremely successful Artist and was at one time one of the highest paid women in showbiz...Does not sound like a recording of her at all.

Really a treat. Very unlike Duke Ellington's later sound.

Duke ellington with strings? Cool

It's Bubber Miley. Cootie replaced him, joining the band two months later.

Wow! Thank you for posting this gem. It's hard to tell it's Ellington until his 2 bar solo, then the band gets into it. Vocalists here: Adelaide Hall & the Hall Johnson Choir. Instrumental solos: Ellington, Bubber Miley, and Barney Bigard. Cootie joined 2 months later. Adelaide Hall continued her career in England.
Recorded Dec 28, 1929 at Liederkranz Hall, NYC as Warren Mills and His Blue Serenaders. Released on Victor 35962, again quite interesting since it's over four minutes long.

wow, it really rocks starting at 2:48! Maybe that's Cootie Williams on trumpet...
This is real old, isn't it? Nicely atmospheric.
