Lucienne Delyle recorded a version of Django Reinhardt's most famous compostion "Nuages" and Barelli recorded several times with Django as part of a big band.

My favorite song (that I spent 6 months learning) was "J'ai chanté sur ma peine", with the 2 very difficult, tongue-twister verses of récitatif, what a bitch that was to learn! But afterward I felt like I could handle anything. This woman had incredible musical gifts and was a genius of the torch song, reminding me so much of our own Helen Morgan. She was also stunning and the very definition of "gamine"! And also a real resistance fighter, as many had claimed to be and so few actually were.

Il est bien oublié le "Mémé" Barelli aujourd'hui.

Pourtant dans mon jeune temps, un grand nombre de trompettistes - dont votre serviteur - essayaient de reproduire son "sweet mellow sound à la française".

Dommage qu'ici, comme vous le dites, il passe plus de temps à chanter qu'à jouer de la trompette.
