If you self-harm and need immediate medical assistance, your nearest Accident and Emergency (A&E) department is the first place to go to. TheSite.org finds out what happens when you go and how you should be treated.

  • Is it wrong that I want to cut so deep that I have to go to A&E so my parents can finally find out what I do to myself?

  • @HellsLeeWay Hi there, thanks for your comment.

It sounds like you're having a tough time at the moment. Talking with family & friends about your emotions can often seem like a really difficult step to make. If you are struggling to cope, we run a dedicated and supported forum where you can talk to others who may be going through some of the feelings you might be having yourself.

Google >> 'thesite: health and wellbeing discussion boards'

    I hope this helps.

    Take care,

    Chris, TheSite.org

  • I hate how the used the stereotypical 'emo' it's wrong...

  • @smashingsnikpmup Hi there, thanks for your comments. As previously mentioned, there was no intention to portray any stereotypes in this video; the young people involved were volunteers and simply wore their own clothes on the day of filming. Self-harm affects many young people in many different ways, regardless of their appearance. Don't forget if you would like to read more about the issues please Google: 'TheSite Self Harm'.

    Take care, Chris @ TheSite.org

  • I find it extremely insulting how they use actors who are all dressed in black and in band t-shirts. I dress like that, and i get a hard enough time with society for it. I dont need them thinking that i self harm too.

Hi there, thanks for your comments.

The young people in this video aren't actors. They were volunteers from a mental health support group who wanted to help make a video to highlight the issues they face when dealing with health professionals. The choice of clothing was entirely their own.

  • I wish I lived in the UK. I had to go to the ER(not even for self harm) and once the doctor saw my scars he became very rude. That one experience made it so I will probably never go to the ER for any reason ever again.
