First attempt at filming Remus, the calmer of my two gerbils. And for the first time, he bit me. Bad gerbil.

Sorry for the quality. My camera was in low res mode and I didn't realize it.

  • Did you name him Remus becuz of Remus Lupin? :]

  • Haha. Well I got him and his twin brother at the same time and I wanted some historical names, so I used Remus and Romulus. Though Remus does evoke images of wolfishness, which coincides with his color. :)

  • do they often bite?

  • Nope. I have only been bit twice in a lot of handling and it didn't break the skin either time.

  • gerbils are vicious and way to hyper.. rats rule go rats

  • Hyper...yes. Especially when they are young. But they are not nocturnal and pee way less than rats. I got really annoyed at rats when I had them because they slept during the day and went crazy active when I went to sleep. And you have to clean up a LOT more.

  • He was just 'tasting' you to see if you are food or foe.

  • When they bite like that they wont pierce your skin. But they can bite hard enough to hang in your finger and make it bleed.

  • I have two gerbils, and I've only ever been bitten once and that was by my brothers ( his gerbil could smell mine ). You're lucky you got your hand out in time.. the nasty buggers don't let go - they're jaw locks so you can either swing the little git off or give him a smack on the tail to make him let go, or sit there for 15 minutes until they decide to let go like I had to.

  • I got my Gerbil from Pets at home the other day and I held it and after 2 seconds it bit my finger and held on for a bout 15 seconds and when it let go it started to bleed..now im scared of holding it.

  • @gvfarns lucky you. one of my gerbils loves gnawing my fingers when she's bored

  • Another reason why a hamster would bite is because it teethes too like babies so getting them something they can chew on helps if you don't already have something like milk bones or a mineral stone.

  • I also get bitten for not washing my hands after eating chips. Serves me well ;D

  • i had one it bit me and held on.... gave him back to pet store..... >:(

  • @ThePurpleWolfy I hope you heard of something called, shock, surprising, and reflex. Shut up and stop acting like your a pro.

  • IT HAS TASTED HUMAN BLOOD! :O THIS COULD MEAN THE END OF LIFE AS WE KNOW IT!

  • @GerbiLTails LOL food or foe or friendly u mean?

  • @GaboonViper5 that happend to me too. my old gerbil Cream bit half of my nail right off. it was all bloody
