The coastal storm on March 8th, 2008 dropped a total of 2.75 inches of rain and had wind gusts up to 42 mph here at Venetian Shores. The waves at the ocean beaches were around 8 feet, the waves in the Great South Bay were about 3-4 feet, and the waves in the canals were about 1 foot. Storm surge was only around +.75 feet on the south shore back bays, so coastal flooding was not a problem. Only stream, creak, and poor drainage freshwater flooding occured. This storm is the same strom that gave Ohio and western New York State a blizzard, with up to 30 inches of snow reported in Ohio.
