  • amazing...finally some realistic applications of chen style.

  • It's true that the four Buddha's CZL WXA CXW ZTC etc did train with CZK, however some say that he did not spend that much time in the village with them & that their 'style' comes far more from CZP & people such as Ma Hong & CY & FZQ spent far more time with CZK & thus have a far stronger understanding of the 'xinjia' style-how true this is we dont know-the only real way to find out is to spend some serious time with a few & find out for yourself-until then it's all just words :))

  • In time of a crisis , would you be able to apply such applications swiftly and correctly to yur opponent ? and did it as you ave been taught and trained? that's another matter to think?

  • Also for a "real" fight. That can mean anything. I wouldn't put tai chi on a pedestal. Nor any other fighting art. But it is all based on common sense and deep investigation of the human being itself. You could be outnumbered, fight a guy who is 250 lbs and 6 ft 5 inches. Or a guy with a gun or knife. I think serious training makes you better prepared but we're all human and we make mistakes. Its up to the individual to train hard in all aspects of combat, mind and body.

  • But the slow practice is just one aspect of an extremely deep art. Have you heard how football players got better by doing ballet? Ballet is freaking hard! When you open your mind and body to other forms of expression I think you become not only a better athlete or martial artist but a better human being.

  • Of course I think tai chi is effective because it makes sound sense when you look at how they apply body mechanics. Have you ever tried pilates? It takes so much control to actually be aware of how you move/contract parts of your body. It's actually quiet mind blowing. We take for granted how powerful our human bodies are. And I don't mean by lifting tons of weight and building strong muscles. Realistic fighting would help for training application of tai chi.

  • @humanyoda

Think about it this way. You can show someone how to swim slowly. These are the movements you must do in unison. This is how you must breath. As you practice more in the water you become more aware of your movements. Some muscles might be too tight, timing is wrong, breathing is erraditic and not deep. You train and train until you become completely relaxed. In many ways it takes a LONG TIME. Same with any martial art.

  • @imbrd just saw your reply. not sure who u are directing this to but although i agree with you, your reply also attacks karate or so-called external arts unfairly. what you mentioned about the internal arts can also be mentioned about karate or the 'external arts'. pls don't judge karate by the crappy mcdojos you see in the west. with all due respect, u also revealed your ignorance about karate.

  • As long as you keep your cool and go with the flow everything is alright.

  • so stubed

Xiao-Wang and Zhenglei have a distinct advantage over others: they're also Chen Zhao-kui's nephews.

I never doubt Ma Hong's taichi skills. I just don't believe he's better than those masters. I've seen what they can do ;-)
