LOL! Yes, they certainly were all dedicated and obsessed, "furioso" each. Among today's conductors I admire Boulez and often admire Abbado but I would hardly call either oif tjhem "furioso."

And there was a similarity that ran through many of them - all maestro furiosos.

Mravinsky was one of the handful of truly great conductors and muscians; I would not hesitate to mention him in the same breath as Furtwangler, Klemperer, Karajan, Monteux, Stokowski, Walter, Beecham, Weingartner, Reiner, Szell, Bohm, Knappertsbusch, Toscanini, Koussevitzky, Munch, and Leibowitz (if you don't know Leibowitz, there are many great examples of his art on YouTube.)

Merci d'avoir partagé cette vidéo :-)
Very interesting to see but a conductor could certainly not allow himself to treat musicians like that (in our time!). But still it was Mravinsky who formed the Leningrad Symphony Orchestra. He was its chief conductor for 50 years! That seems unbelievable: Today conductors change their posts every 5 years!
Yes... The good old days...
